Inaugural Year of the Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL).

This year's champions: Minnesota!

I got into the PWHL this year. I saw the posts floating around online about it very early this year, but I didn’t start watching until a couple months in. From what I gather, the PWHL low key had to cannibalize another women’s hockey league (the PWHPA and the PHL) in order to get off the ground. They really push the idea that they’re the first women’s hockey league, but it’s important to remember that women’s hockey has been around for a long, long time. It just so happens that the PWHL is the most recent and the best funded edition.

That being said, it’s important to support them anyways. That way, the PWHL hopefully gets to the same level of popularity and influence as the male counterpart, the NHL.

Also, I would love a US West Coast based team! Right now, there are six teams; three Canadian teams (Toronto, Montreal, and Ottowa) and three US teams (New York, Boston, and Minnesota). It will probably be a while until they’re stable enough to expand, but here’s hoping!

I’ve never been into sports, so it was a little weird to get into it. However, the first game I watched was the Boston vs New York game on Mar 25th. Jamie Lee Rattray did a court side interview, I saw her eyes, and it was all over for me.

Jamie Lee Rattray, a brown haired pale woman with brown eyes, is wearing a headset, sitting on the side of the rink, and looking up past the camera. She is in the middle of saying something.
The screenshot I took of Rattray immediately after falling in love.

After watching, my favorites are Jamie Lee Rattray (Bos #47, Forward) and Aerin Frankel (Bos #31, Goalie). I also love Kelly Babstock’s (Bos #55, Forward) energy, and it never fails to impress me when Megan Keller (Bos #5, Defense) gets into a scrap. Speaking of, here's my favorite picutre from this season:

Seven people in the center of the image are in a fight. Two are goalies, three are Montreal players, three are Boston players, and two are referees. The Boston player in the center is Megan Keller. In the background, Goalie Aerin Frankel looks unbothered. In the background, fans are cheering.
Ms. Keller and also the photographer please don't sue me for posting this, I'll take it down in a heartbeat if necessary. Image links to source.

Anyway, depending on if they keep streaming on youtube, I'm gonna make a new page for each season. Just a cute long term project to keep me invested.
